LaborLabor
Key Points
  • Sweden's County Administrative Boards launched web-based training to combat harassment in archaeology.
  • Training targets all archaeology workers, including field archaeologists and managers.
  • Developed in collaboration with industry bodies following #utgrävningpågår metoo campaign.

The training, titled 'Gräv där du står – för tryggare arbetsplatser inom arkeologi', targets everyone in the archaeology field, including field archaeologists, seasonal employees, project managers, managers, and university students, according to the County Administrative Boards. It includes recorded scenarios, lectures, and reflection questions, addressing unwanted behaviors, discrimination, and preventive measures for employers. The initiative was developed in collaboration with the Swedish National Heritage Board, industry organizations M-ark and SUBO, and the Archaeological Society.

Heidi Vassi, County Antiquarian at Länsstyrelsen Kronoberg, said that archaeology workplaces must be safe for everyone and that the training aims to provide knowledge and tools to prevent harassment. Roger Edenmo, County Antiquarian at Länsstyrelsen Uppsala, noted that as procurers of archaeological investigations, the boards have a responsibility to contribute to a good work environment. The goal is to foster a more sustainable and gender-equal archaeology industry.

It remains unclear how many people have enrolled in or completed the training since its launch, and what specific metrics will be used to evaluate its effectiveness.
