SVT has announced plans to cut 141 jobs and pause or remake programs to save 355 million kronor, according to reports from Helsingborgs Dagblad, Sydsvenskan, and Nya Wermlands-Tidningen. The savings were first announced in February, reportedly due to increased costs for the terrestrial network after TV4 withdrew and an expanded mandate to prepare for crisis and war. TV4's exit at the turn of the year is said to increase SVT's share of the cost by 192 million kronor for 2026, based on the company's own calculations.

SVT's CEO Anne Lagercrantz stated in a press release that tough priorities are being made under the new strategy, forcing layoffs of journalists and employees across the country. ' Two-thirds of the affected positions are in the News Division, with layoffs planned in Stockholm, Umeå, Göteborg, and Växjö, according to SVT Nyheter.
