SVT will close its Växjö broadcast location for local news at the turn of the year 2026-2027 as part of cost-saving measures. The closure affects five positions at the Växjö editorial office, including three roles in TV broadcasting and two reporter positions. SVT's local news broadcasts from Småland and Jönköping will no longer be transmitted from the TV house in Växjö.
The broadcasts will instead originate from one of SVT's five remaining broadcast locations, though the exact location is not yet determined. This change is part of a broader reduction from nine to five broadcast locations, with Sundsvall, Karlstad, and Stockholm also being eliminated as broadcast sites. SVT needs to save 355 million kronor, and efforts to streamline TV broadcasts have been ongoing for several years.
The first broadcast of SVT Nyheter Småland, then called Smålandsnytt, from Växjö occurred on March 14, 1983.
