In the 2022 election, the Sweden Democrats won more seats in Västerbotten County's municipal councils than they had people to fill them. The party currently has nine empty seats in the county's municipal councils, while the Moderates have one. This situation has affected political work, particularly in Dorotea, where the Sweden Democrats still have four vacant seats.
Since last winter, the Sweden Democrats have intensified recruitment efforts in the county's municipalities. Despite this, the party still struggles to find candidates in Sorsele and Åsele. Historically, there has been a stigma associated with the Sweden Democrats, especially in Västerbotten, which is a concern.
The party continues its recruitment work and states that the situation looks brighter ahead of the next election.
