Sweden's national team reportedly faces a goalkeeper crisis ahead of its World Cup qualifying playoff match against Ukraine. Robin Olsen, a 36-year-old goalkeeper with 79 caps for Sweden, chose to retire from the national team at the end of September after reportedly being told by then-manager Jon Dahl Tomasson that he would be dropped for a World Cup qualifier against Switzerland. Olsen reportedly stated he does not appreciate Tomasson's leadership and cannot play for him anymore.
Tomasson has since been fired, and Graham Potter is the new national team coach, but Olsen has not been called up since Potter took over. Currently, goalkeeper Viktor Johansson is injured, and Jacob Widell Zetterström has reportedly been affected by a virus. Miguel Ángel Ramírez, head coach of Malmö FF where Olsen returned this summer, reportedly hopes Potter will call Olsen for the playoff match, saying he believes Olsen is the best goalkeeper and that having Malmö players in the national team is good news as it signals they are performing well.
