Sweden's national football team has qualified for the World Cup this summer after a dramatic 3-2 playoff final win against Poland. The match took place at a sold-out Strawberry arena. Sweden reportedly had a poor qualifying campaign but secured their spot through the playoff.
Viktor Gyökeres scored the winning goal in the 88th minute, having also scored a hat-trick in a 3-1 win against Ukraine earlier in the week. Sweden took the lead twice during the match but Poland equalized both times, leading to a tense situation before Gyökeres' late goal. This will be Sweden's first World Cup appearance since 2018, with the tournament set to be held in North America.
