William Thoresson, Sweden's first and only individual Olympic gold medalist in gymnastics, has died at age 93. He passed away overnight on Wednesday after a short illness, according to his widow Eva Thoresson. 8 out of 10.
He also won a silver medal in floor exercise at the 1956 Melbourne Olympics and competed in the 1960 Rome and 1964 Tokyo Games. In 1954, he won a world championship silver medal. Thoresson was inducted into the International Gymnastics Hall of Fame in 2001.
He worked as a physical education teacher in Hammarkullen, Gothenburg, for nearly 25 years. At age 93, he was Sweden's oldest living Olympic gold medalist.
