Ice covering large parts of Lake Vättern near Motala has drawn many people to the lake during winter weather, but conditions remain dangerous according to local rescue officials. Erik Molander of the Swedish Sea Rescue Society in Motala reported that the organization has received four emergency calls so far this winter season. The rescue service maintains constant readiness with two hovercrafts to respond to incidents on the frozen lake.
While the ice appears solid, rescue officials warn that winter conditions on Lake Vättern can be unpredictable and potentially hazardous for those venturing onto the frozen surface.
