The Swedish government is reportedly preparing to present new proposals on migration policy, specifically addressing the controversial issue of teenage deportations, according to Sveriges Radio Nyheter. Meanwhile, opposition parties are mobilizing to force a parliamentary vote to stop these deportations.
Annika Hirvonen, migration policy spokesperson for the Miljöpartiet (Green Party), and Tony Haddou, migration policy spokesperson for Vänsterpartiet (Left Party), are leading the opposition effort. The two politicians are presenting what they call a 'motion of special event' aimed at getting parliament to 'as soon as possible' stop the teenage deportations.
We're not letting this go
'We're not letting this go,' Annika Hirvonen told Flamman. Tony Haddou added, 'Now it has to be enough with words.'
The opposition initiative comes after previous attempts to pause the deportations were voted down in parliament. However, Hirvonen noted that Socialdemokraterna (Social Democrats), who initially said they would vote against stopping teenage deportations, chose to abstain from voting in a previous motion, which she described as a partial victory.
Now it has to be enough with words
According to Sveriges Radio Nyheter, the government coalition parties are expected to present their new migration proposals on Friday. The issue has created internal pressure within several political parties, including Liberalerna and Kristdemokraterna, according to Hirvonen.
