The Discrimination Ombudsman (DO) has ordered Trelleborg municipality in Sweden to pay 50,000 kronor in discrimination compensation to a substitute teacher. The substitute reportedly faced harassment, including repeated use of the n-word and monkey noises, from a colleague. The substitute first reported the behavior to Trelleborg municipality, which concluded it was unclear what happened and that it was one person's word against another's.

However, the DO disagreed, citing a recording where the colleague confirmed using the n-word. The DO stated the municipality did not take reasonable measures. According to reports, the municipality has admitted in a letter to the DO that it failed and will pay the compensation.

The person reported has been reassigned.
