A new surveillance camera installed at the Vallås recycling station in Halmstad has led to multiple arrests and fines for illegal dumping, according to public broadcaster SVT Halland. The camera was installed by Halmstads energi och miljö (HEM) in December 2025 and is clearly marked with signage. Despite the warning, 28 cases of illegal dumping have been reported to police, where trash and bulky waste were discarded outside designated containers.
The majority of offenders have been caught and most have been forced to pay fines. One case involved a man dumping an entire mattress, resulting in a fine of 18,400 kronor. The surveillance system has reportedly reduced the frequency of cleaning required at the station, as it deters potential dumpers.
SVT Halland has reviewed several surveillance videos from the station showing the illegal dumping incidents.
