Work on the new subway extension in Sickla has been stopped after regional authorities terminated the contract with construction company CRTG due to serious and recurring workplace safety violations. According to reports from SVT Stockholm, the Administration for Expanded Subway has canceled the contract with CRTG, which was responsible for building tunnels and the station in Sickla. The safety deficiencies reportedly include problems with scaffolding, fire protection, evacuation routes, and fall protection systems, posing immediate danger to life and health.
' The workplace safety problems are said to have persisted for a long time and worsened in recent months. It remains unclear how this contract termination will affect the timeline for the new subway project.
No one has died, but with the deficiencies we see at the workplace now, the risks to both life and health are far too great.
