  • A review found police missed opportunities in handling the missing person case

Fintan Jack Feltham, who was studying War, Peace and International Relations at the University of Reading, went on a night out with friends from the cadet school. He and his friends drank at The Swan and Castle pub and then went to Plush, an LGBT+ nightclub, just after midnight. He was thrown out of Plush at around 2:30am for intoxication.

Alexander Bloomfield, Thames Valley Police civil alcohol licensing officer, said there were 'missed opportunities' at Plush to detect Fintan Jack Feltham's increasing intoxication. His post-mortem found he was two and a half times over the legal driving limit. Fintan Jack Feltham was seen on CCTV staggering down St Aldates, Abingdon Road, and Whitehouse Road after being ejected from the club.

He called his girlfriend multiple times during his walk, with the final call starting at 3:20am and cutting out ten minutes later, likely due to a dead battery. Molly told the inquest that Fintan Jack Feltham said he was really cold and scared, and she had never heard him like that before. In a phone call, Fintan Jack Feltham told his girlfriend Molly that a man had tried to rape him, and he lost his glasses during the alleged attack.

Police said they found no evidence of the assault, but an attack was 'possible' during an eight-minute gap in CCTV footage. The exact events during that gap remain unclear. According to police, Molly phoned police just before 4am, and it was logged as a concern for welfare.

Police said they went to Fintan Jack Feltham's last location on Snapchat maps 48 minutes later and checked his Reading accommodation, taxi ranks, the train station, and hospitals. He was identified as a high risk missing person at 11:53am the next morning. Fintan Jack Feltham was found by a member of the public in a flooded field near Grandpont Recreation Park.

A later review found police missed opportunities in the case.
