Storm Nils struck Southern Europe on Thursday, causing injuries and disruptions. According to Svenska Dagbladet and Aftonbladet, over 80 people received emergency care and nearly ten were hospitalized after the storm hit Catalonia in northeastern Spain, as reported by El Pais. Schools were closed and around 100 flights were canceled at Barcelona's El Prat airport.

In southwestern France, a truck driver died from a branch through the windshield, watercourses overflowed, and hundreds of thousands of French households were without power in the evening, according to Le Monde. Aftonbladet adds that Portugal was also affected, with a highway viaduct partially collapsing between Lisbon and Porto, according to AFP. The storm reportedly moved eastward in the evening, with strong winds over the island of Corsica west of Italy.
