Darrell Sheets, known as 'The Gambler' on the reality TV series Storage Wars, has died at the age of 67 from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound, according to police. Sheets was found dead in the early hours of Wednesday at his home in Lake Havasu City, Arizona, multiple sources reported. The Lake Havasu City Police Department said he died of what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head.
In the weeks before his death, Sheets had publicly claimed he was the victim of a cyberbullying campaign. He alleged that a stalker used spoofed phone numbers and online aliases to impersonate him, harass small businesses, and extort money. On March 9, Sheets posted on Facebook saying he had been hacked by a very evil person. His final Facebook post on March 11 described a three-year online campaign against him. Sheets' friend and Storage Wars co-star Rene Nezhoda urged law enforcement to investigate the cyberbullying. A police spokesman confirmed that the cyberbullying accusations are part of an active investigation.
Sheets appeared on Storage Wars from 2010 to 2021 (or 2023) and featured in 163 episodes. He ran an antique shop called Havasu Show Me Your Junk in Lake Havasu City, Arizona. In 2019, he suffered a heart attack and underwent surgery.
A&E, the network that aired Storage Wars, released a statement expressing sadness over Sheets' death. Several details remain unclear, including the identity of the alleged cyberbully and what evidence exists. It is not known whether Sheets left a suicide note or had any known mental health issues. The status of the police investigation into the cyberbullying allegations is also unknown.
