Region Stockholm has revised the procurement documents for children's and youth dental care contracts, with changes taking effect from May 6, 2026. The revisions aim to have more children cared for in general dental care, increase reimbursements, introduce an index-based price adjustment in 2027, and strengthen control over payments to prevent welfare system crimes. Examples of changes include allowing general dental care providers to refer patients to other providers within the same care choice to ensure care at the right level, enabling health examinations for children and youth in placements to be conducted in general dental care, and requiring documentation when referring to specialist dental care.
Other measures involve having a specialist doctor responsible for dental care under anesthesia, imposing fines for repeated incorrect reporting leading to overpayments, extending exclusion grounds to key personnel, and limiting the use of subcontractors.
