World Public Transport Day has been initiated by the global public transport network UITP, where Region Stockholm through the traffic administration is a member. The purpose of World Public Transport Day is to highlight public transport and its important role for societies and people around the world. Region Stockholm wants to celebrate World Public Transport Day by offering a discounted ticket valid in SL traffic for just over 24 hours.
5 hours. The discounted day pass is valid from April 17 at 00:00 to and including April 18 at 04:30. The purpose of the discounted day pass is to encourage as many people as possible to try public transport and travel around Stockholm at a favorable price.
From Friday, April 10, the ticket is available for pre-purchase in the SL app, at agents, at barrier kiosks, and at SL's customer service shop. In the SL app, the ticket is called '17 april: Dygnsbiljett' ('17 april: Day pass' in English). The ticket is valid only during April 17–18.
It is not known how many people are expected to purchase or use the discounted day pass, nor what specific measures or events, if any, are planned by Region Stockholm or SL to further promote World Public Transport Day beyond the ticket offer.
