Key Points
  • Länsstyrelsen Stockholm distributes over 30.5 million SEK in state grants for violence prevention.
  • Priority given to interventions helping victims leave violent relationships.
  • Funding supports Iceland model, iRisk, and county-wide projects.

The grant targets municipalities, the region, and municipal associations. Interest was high, especially among the county's municipalities and their municipal operations. On Friday, June 8, Länsstyrelsen invited municipalities that were granted funding to an information meeting about the continued process and support available. Turnout from municipalities was large and there is strong engagement around violence prevention work.

Priority was given to interventions that help people leave violent relationships, according to Katarina Edlund, development leader at Länsstyrelsen Stockholm. Several municipalities received funding to employ support persons, contact persons, or coordinators to offer practical support to victims of violence to leave the perpetrator. These interventions will be offered without a needs assessment decision, in line with the new Social Services Act, Edlund said.

Some municipalities received funding to develop work with the so-called Iceland model, a collaboration model where police and social services cooperate in acute cases of violence in families with children. Several municipalities received funding to implement iRisk, a method support for assessing risks for children who have experienced violence in the family. Two county-wide projects were granted state funding: one for Origo to develop web-based knowledge material based on the 'Origo model', and another for prostitution and human trafficking to manage, follow up, and further develop the regional agreement with the county's municipalities against prostitution and human trafficking, supported by a regional coordinator. The goal of all granted state funding is to contribute to lasting improvements in violence prevention work, not just temporary efforts.
