Statnett proceeds with original power line plan
Key Points
  • Statnett proceeds with original power line plan after investigation
  • Southern alternatives face challenges with dense settlement and higher costs
  • Over 700 consultation responses received; final decision rests with government

The main challenge with southern alternatives is dense settlement, according to project director Kenneth Teigenes. He said that if the power line takes a different route, it would most likely require demolishing houses. A submarine cable between Lønborg in Bergen and Erdal on Askøy would be particularly challenging and would conflict with existing seabed infrastructure.

5 billion kroner. Over 700 consultation responses were received, many negative to the proposal. Statnett assumes five years of construction time, and the line could be completed as early as 2036.

NVE grants the concession, but due to controversy, the government with the Minister of Energy will have the final say. Monica Mæland, CEO of Bergen Chamber of Commerce, said construction cannot start soon enough and that a new power line will secure jobs and supply security.
