Region Sörmland in Sweden is offering free HPV vaccination to unvaccinated individuals under 27 years old starting today. The initiative aims to reduce the risk of cancer caused by HPV, according to Malin Enarsson, a smittskyddsläkare, in a press release. HPV, or human papillomavirus, is the most common sexually transmitted infection in Sweden, as stated by the Folkhälsomyndigheten, and can lead to cell changes and cancer in both women and men.
Previously, women born between 1994 and 1999 were offered free HPV vaccination from 2023 to 2025. Vaccination provides good protection for both women and men, Enarsson said.
