The new investment is not seen as a declaration of war by tomato growers there. According to NRK Stor-Oslo, Kåre Wiig, a large tomato grower from Jæren, said he is not afraid of competition from the east. Wiig's greenhouse has 60,000 square meters and produces about 2,000 tons of tomatoes per year.
It could perhaps produce around a third of the tomatoes that Norway imports today, which is 20,000 tons.
The goal is to start delivering tomatoes to customers in two years. According to NRK Stor-Oslo, entrepreneur Peder Nærbø said the facility could eventually produce about one-third of the tomatoes Norway currently imports, which is 20,000 tons.
It is imports that we should counteract, not the neighbor who grows tomatoes.
