According to Sveriges Radio's investigative program Ekot, Social Democratic politician Lars Bryntesson, who also works as a civil servant at the Government Offices, has for several years been part of the leadership of Svea Education, the company behind the criticized Svea Gymnasium. Bryntesson reportedly said he became involved due to the school's ambitions for openness and social benefit, but reacted to Ekot's information that the school had employed convicted criminals to teach students entrepreneurship. After Ekot's questions, Bryntesson's name and photo were reportedly removed from the company's website.
The politician, who has served as municipal councilor in both Värmdö and Sigtuna and currently sits in the regional council of Region Stockholm, stated that his political engagement has always focused on giving all students the best possible education. Ekot has previously reported on several deficiencies at Svea Gymnasium, including having one of the lowest teacher densities in the country and poor study environment according to the Swedish National Agency for Education's teacher survey.
