Socialdemokraterna in Skåne have announced a major election promise to drastically reduce public transport prices if they win the regional election. According to the party's proposal, a monthly travel card valid throughout Skåne would cost 500 kronor, down from the current price of 1,370 kronor. The announcement was made during a press conference on Thursday by Henrik Fritzon, group leader for Socialdemokraterna in Region Skåne and regional councilor.
Fritzon stated that the aim is to make it easier for people to work across the entire county, with the hope of increasing growth and thereby tax revenues. The party plans to introduce a flat-rate tariff for monthly passes in Skånetrafiken, with the 500 kronor price to remain fixed throughout the mandate period without index increases. For young people and seniors, the cost would be reduced further to 300 kronor, effective from 2027.

Socialdemokraterna estimate the annual cost of the flat-rate tariff at 300-400 million kronor, which they claim can be financed within Skånetrafiken's current framework due to the organization's recent financial surpluses.
