According to NRK Innlandet, traffic operator Trude Lindstad said conditions are not suitable for summer tires over Kvikne, Dovrefjell, and Hardangervidda. On county road 27 over Venabygdsfjellet, there is snow and wind in the morning hours with risk of closure on short notice. Conditions may improve around midday but worsen again in the afternoon. County road 51 over Valdresflye is closed due to bad weather, with a new assessment later today.
Emergency services responded to several traffic accidents on various roads on Thursday morning. According to NRK Innlandet, police operations leader Frode Øvreås said accidents occurred at altitudes above 600 meters, with snow and slush on the road. In Nordre Land, a car drove off county road 250; the driver was reported for using summer tires on winter conditions, driving without a valid license, and driving an unregistered vehicle. In Trysil, a driver drove off the road and was taken to Hamar hospital. The driver had legal winter tires and there is no suspicion of intoxication.
It is certainly not suitable for summer tires. Over Kvikne, Dovrefjell and Hardangervidda, there are truly winter-like conditions.
Øvreås advised people who have not changed tires to consider alternative routes or switch to studded or winter tires. According to NRK Innlandet, he said challenging conditions will persist through Sunday in parts of Innlandet. Lindstad believes conditions will improve toward May 17, with the worst being Thursday and Friday.
On county road 27 over Venabygdsfjellet, there is snow and wind in the morning hours, and risk that it may be closed on short notice.
It looks like there will be some improvement around midday, before it picks up again in the afternoon.
We have registered several traffic accidents that have occurred at altitudes above 600 meters. There is snow and slush on the road, and we have had some cases of run-offs both with and without personal injury.
Take other routes than up in the highlands, or get changed to studded tires and winter tires.
Based on the weather forecasts, there are reports of sub-zero temperatures and precipitation through Sunday in parts of Innlandet. So the situation we are in now will persist for a few days. And people should take that into account.
It is perhaps worst today and tomorrow, and it looks like it will have subsided by the time we reach May 17 on Sunday.
