A snow shortage in Åre municipality, Sweden, has led to the unusually early closure of some snowmobile trails this year, affecting Easter celebrations for many snowmobile enthusiasts. The spring arrived early in the Jämtland mountains, causing many trails to close, including those crossing waterways that have become exposed in many places. Väsek, which manages a network of 75 miles of snowmobile trails in western Åre municipality, emphasizes that snowmobilers have a significant personal responsibility to follow terrain driving laws, which prohibit riding on thin snow cover or bare ground.
According to Callis Blom, chairman of Väsek, it is still possible to ride snowmobiles from areas like Storlien, Ånn, Gevsjön, Enafors, Huså, and Kall higher up on the mountain.
