Smart has revived its two-seater city car with the Concept #2, a spiritual successor to the ForTwo, revealed at the brand's Global Brand Event in Beijing. The production version will debut at the Paris Motor Show in October 2026.
The Concept #2 is 2,792 mm long, about 30 cm longer than the original ForTwo and 10 cm longer than the third-generation car. It is styled by the Mercedes-Benz Global Design Team and features a wheels-at-the-corners layout to maximize interior space. The Concept #2 is longer than the average UK parking bay width of 2.4 metres.
The Concept #2 uses Smart's new Electric Compact Architecture (ECA) platform, according to a source familiar with the matter. The target range is around 186 miles (300 km), and it supports DC rapid charging from 10% to 80% in under 20 minutes. The turning circle is 6.95 metres, according to a source familiar with the matter.
The production model will be called Smart #2, following the brand's new naming convention. The Smart ForTwo was produced from 2000 until 2024 across three generations, according to a source familiar with the matter. The Concept #2 is smaller than a Fiat 500 and Honda Super-N, but larger than the Citroën Ami and Microlino. The Citroën Ami and Microlino are classified as quadricycles, not passenger cars. In 2014, a UK Smart ForTwo owner won an appeal against a parking ticket for perpendicular parking, according to a source familiar with the matter.
