Nova Lindén has a muscle disease, SMA, and is fighting to get more personal assistance. She cannot walk, has difficulty moving, and has problems with pain. During her schooling, everything worked well, with assistance through the school providing the help she needed due to her congenital disease.
After graduation last summer, the help from the school ended, and Nova Lindén applied for personal assistance from her home municipality of Perstorp. Nova believes she needs help around the clock, but the municipality's response was 42 hours per week, equivalent to about six hours per day, Monday to Friday. The municipality refers to home care services, stating that Nova can manage with help from home care, which she can call for as needed for the rest of the day.
After lunch, she is referred to home care services. On weekends, her mother Jessica has to act as an assistant, and instead of staying at the school boarding house as planned, Nova goes home to avoid being left alone in her room. Perstorp Municipality declined an interview but says they follow all laws and prevailing case law and do not comment on individual cases due to confidentiality.
