Slovenia drops Eurovision for Palestinian film series
Key Points
  • Slovenia's RTV Slovenia replaces Eurovision with Palestinian film series
  • Ireland, Spain, Netherlands, Iceland also boycott or refuse to broadcast
  • Artists including Massive Attack and Brian Eno call for boycott

RTV Slovenia director Ksenija Horvat confirmed the broadcaster will not air the Eurovision Song Contest, instead showing a film series called 'Voices of Palestine' featuring Palestinian documentaries and feature films. Slovenia previously pulled out of Eurovision over Israel's participation, according to multiple reports.

Ireland, Spain, the Netherlands, and Iceland are also refusing to take part this year due to Israel's involvement, major media reported. Spain's RTVE reiterated its decision not to air Eurovision last week, a first since 1961. Ireland's RTÉ announced last December it would neither broadcast nor participate. The Netherlands and Iceland will show Eurovision on their respective national broadcasters, NPO and RÚV.

We will not be broadcasting the Eurovision Song Contest.

This year's 70th edition of Eurovision will have 35 competing countries and is scheduled to take place in Vienna from 12-16 May. Russia has been barred since 2022 after its full-scale invasion of Ukraine. Thousands of artists, including Massive Attack, Kneecap, Mogwai, Brian Eno, Sigur Rós and Nadine Shah, signed an open letter organised by No Music for Genocide and the BDS movement calling for a fan boycott. The letter accused Eurovision of being used to whitewash Israel's actions. Israel has consistently denied committing genocide in Gaza, though a UN inquiry concluded in September 2025 that Israel is committing genocide.

We will be airing the film series 'Voices of Palestine,' featuring Palestinian documentaries and feature films.
