Key Points
  • Skytteskolan launched an art project in fall 2025 to transform its sterile environment
  • Ninth-grade students worked with an artist and assistants using playful techniques to paint walls
  • A vernissage event showcased the results, aiming to boost student pride and ownership

Skytteskolan, a relatively newly built school, was perceived by many as a bit sterile and adult in its expression. The school sought funds from 'Kultur i skolan' (Kulis) and the project 'Skapande skola' to address this. The project involved ninth-grade students working with an artist from Stockholm and his two assistants for a few intensive weeks.

The method for creating the motifs was challenging and playful, starting with drawing figures without looking at the paper or lifting the pen. The quick sketches were transferred to the walls with pencil, then color was added with strict rules to create dynamism, and finally lines were filled in with thick paint to make the art pop. The project aimed to foster greater pride and care for the school among students by letting them put their mark on the environment.

It was a fun experience and good for the cohesion in the class. It was nice to get to express oneself creatively instead of just sitting in lessons.

The students, Students

On April 2, the school held a large vernissage evening to showcase the final result, attracting many visitors, especially parents of older students. During the vernissage, guests could admire the newly painted walls, see music videos created by students, enjoy live music, and visit open houses in craft and art rooms to see student work and try painting themselves. Through the project, Skytteskolan has gone from being a building with 'boring walls' to a place that clearly signals it belongs to the students.

Now you see that the school is for us, and not just for adults.
