Skepta, real name Joseph Adenuga, is standing trial at High Wycombe Magistrates’ Court on charges including alleged drug-driving and speeding in his Rolls-Royce Phantom. The grime artist was arrested on suspicion of drug-driving after a police officer pulled him over for allegedly driving 'recklessly' and smelt cannabis in his car, according to multiple reports.
Prosecutor Lucy Curran said Adenuga was stopped by Pc Talan O’Neill after the officer observed him driving 'recklessly'. Pc O’Neill told the court he saw Adenuga overtaking a vehicle on the outside lane at a pace in excess of the 30mph speed limit. After pulling Adenuga over, Pc O’Neill said he noticed a 'smell of cannabis in the vehicle'.
He was arrested when that sample came back with a positive result for the THC component in cannabis and then taken back to the police station.
A roadside drug test conducted at 10.54am came back positive for tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), a substance found in cannabis. According to Curran, 'He was arrested when that sample came back with a positive result for the THC component in cannabis and then taken back to the police station.' Adenuga was compliant throughout the process.
Adenuga was charged with driving a motor vehicle with a proportion of a specified controlled drug above the specified limit. He previously pleaded not guilty to the offence. The incident occurred on London Road in High Wycombe on May 14, 2024. Adenuga was driving a Mercedes-Maybach at the time of his arrest. The trial continues.
