From Skavsta Airport in Nyköping, an hour's journey from Stockholm, flights to Finland last occurred in the early 2000s. Skavsta Airport's CEO Brett Weihart is now trying to resume air traffic to Helsinki. The hope is to start traffic to the neighboring country as early as next year.
As recently as 2019, there was lively air traffic from Skavsta to various parts of Europe. Then came the pandemic, and one of the airport's largest airlines, Ryanair, moved its base to Arlanda, and later Wizz Air also moved away some of its flights. Currently, you can only fly to seven destinations from Skavsta; at most, it has reached over 40 destinations from there.
Currently, there are no plans for that. For our part, the most important route is between Stockholm and Helsinki, so that is our primary way of serving this region.
Brett Weihart, CEO of Skavsta Airport, is actively working to get the airport's traffic to flourish again. One of the most desired destinations from Skavsta is Helsinki, and according to Weihart, the Skavsta-Helsinki route has been discussed with, among others, Finnair. His hope is that the route could start as early as next year.
From Finnair's side, the plans are not confirmed. Robert Lönnblad, Sales Manager at Finnair, stated, "Currently, there are no plans for that. " Whether Finnair will agree to operate the Skavsta-Helsinki route remains uncertain.
The exact timeline for when the Skavsta-Helsinki route might start is also unclear.
