The mosquito problem in Skåre, Sweden, may be alleviated this summer. Karlstad municipality plans to chemically combat mosquitoes along the Klarälven river in the Skåre area. The municipality submitted an application to the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency last autumn to combat floodwater mosquitoes biologically.
A decision from the agency is expected in the coming days. If approved, the mosquito control, planned to be carried out via helicopter spraying, can begin along the Klarälven in the Skåre area. According to Sara Blad, a municipal ecologist, there are no environmental risks at all with the spraying.
