According to a new survey from the Swedish Media Council, seven out of ten young people are positive towards an age limit on social media. Among those who support an age limit, there is general agreement that it should be set at 15 years. The study is based on responses from 1,745 individuals aged 15-24.
Other results show that 67 percent agree completely or partly that it would be good to require age verification. Common reasons cited in the study for an age limit include unrealistic body ideals, hate and threats in digital environments, and negative effects on mental health. Some respondents expressed concerns that age limits could become overly restrictive.
