The actor, who played Del Boy in the classic sitcom, said the problem with a TV revival is that the man who created it is no longer with us. John Sullivan, who wrote every episode, died in 2011. ' Only Fools and Horses ran for seven series and 16 Christmas specials between 1981 and 2003, and is often voted the UK's best ever sitcom.

There have been spin-offs and a stage show but no new TV episodes in the 23 years since the show ended. The musical, written by Paul Whitehouse and Jim Sullivan, ran in the West End for over four years until April 2023. Re-runs on ITVX now come with trigger warnings.

But the problem (with a TV revival) is that the man who created it is no longer with us. He wrote every episode and just happened to be a genius.

Sir David Jason recently reunited with Tessa Peake-Jones for a docuseries called Only Fools and Horses: The Lost Archive.

I'm not so sure that we have a writer clever enough to take on his mantle. No one could write characters like he could. Providing we have a good script, let's go for it!
