The Simpson Strong Tie factory in Gunnebo, Sweden, will close its manufacturing operations, affecting 65 employees who have been notified of layoffs. The decision was announced on Tuesday, with the factory continuing to deliver products until it shuts down later this year. According to the factory's CEO Owe Wedebrand, the closure follows several difficult years for the plant, with demand for nails decreasing as screws replace them, leading to significant losses.
The factory has a total of 79 employees, and 14 will remain, including in the company's sales division located in Västervik, Gunnebo, and other parts of Sweden.
