According to sources, the price of silver has increased by 184 percent in one year and by 22 percent this year alone. Anna Höglund, store manager at a goldsmith shop in Gävle, says people come in every day wanting to sell their silver. She notes it is mainly flatware, but also candlesticks and silver spoons that are being sold.

Höglund states that people are aware that the silver price has skyrocketed. She adds that previously it was all old gold that came in, now it is silver cutlery and everything else that people have at home and want money for. The silver price fluctuates strongly, with one day it can go up 15 percent, another day go down 20 percent.

Höglund explains that they follow the price day by day, and the unrest in the world plays a role. She says they melt down the silver they buy in and then resell it, and some silver they also process and make jewelry from. The specific global unrest affecting the silver price has not been detailed, and the current exact price of silver per ounce or gram is unknown.
