According to the poll, 72% of all voters believe the tariffs have had a negative rather than a positive impact, and 67% said tariffs are not the right solution for improving the economy. A separate poll found that a majority of voters are dissatisfied with the Trump administration's handling of the economy, inflation, and tariffs.

Consumer prices have risen over the past year. Economic data shows grocery prices increased 3.1% from February 2025 to February 2026, with beef prices up 14% and coffee prices up 18% since last year. According to reported data, national gas prices exceeded $4 per gallon for the first time since 2022, and a Quinnipiac University poll found that 51% of registered voters largely attribute the recent increases in gas prices to President Trump. However, 54% of self-identified MAGA voters said Trump's deportation efforts are 'about right.' A separate McLaughlin & Associates poll for the Mass Deportation Coalition found that 66% of likely 2026 voters support the deportation of any migrant who enters the U.S. illegally.

A YouGov poll found that 42% of Americans believe it is very or somewhat likely that there will be a total economic collapse in the next 10 years, and 43% said the U.S. is currently in a recession. Half of Americans have no trust at all in Trump’s ability to handle the economy, according to the same poll.
