Key Points
  • Scott Mills sacked from BBC Radio 2 over historic conduct allegations
  • Case dropped years ago; new information led to dismissal
  • Sara Cox expected to replace Mills on Eurovision

Scott Mills was sacked from BBC Radio 2 a month ago, according to multiple reports. The veteran broadcaster was fired following allegations over his personal conduct relating to a historic relationship dating back more than 10 years. The allegations involve a historic police investigation into serious sexual offences against a boy under 16, reported to have taken place between 1997 and 2000.

The case was dropped around seven years ago due to lack of evidence. However, outgoing director general Tim Davie said Mills had to be fired after receiving new information about him. The exact nature of this new information has not been disclosed.

Sara Cox is expected to replace Scott Mills on the Eurovision Song Contest, according to multiple reports. Cox commented on the Eurovision semi-finals on Radio 2 last year. She also ran a 135-mile ultramarathon for Children in Need, raising £11.5 million.
