Sieppi, who gave birth to a boy, described the experience on her podcast, saying that a midwife became concerned about the baby's heart rate during labour. A scalp electrode was attached to better monitor the heart, but the room suddenly filled with people as preparations for an emergency C-section began due to weak heart sounds. The situation calmed down, and Sieppi delivered vaginally without needing surgery.
Her partner, footballer Pyry Soiri, was on a work trip abroad at the time. The couple had agreed he would return to Finland before the due date, but contractions started earlier than expected. Sieppi burst into tears when she realised Soiri would not make it to the birth.
It would have been crazy to leave such a big thing out of my book.
The baby was born about two hours after she arrived at the hospital. Soiri witnessed the birth via video call and took a screen recording, though Sieppi has only watched a small part of it. Soiri met the baby for the first time at their home.
Sieppi has previously spoken about four miscarriages, including in her book.
Miscarriage is a taboo topic. Sharing my experience created discussion and support.
