Sara Gunnarsson announced today that she is leaving her positions as regional councilor and group leader for Liberalerna in Region Värmland. She also informed the county association's nomination committee yesterday that she is withdrawing from the parliamentary and regional lists, declining re-election as vice chair of Liberalerna Värmland, and removing herself from the municipal list in Karlstad municipality. In a press release, she cited two primary reasons for her departure: she cannot accept what has happened in the party in the past week, which she says goes against her fundamental view of democracy and how a member-led association should function, and she cannot accept that Liberalerna is now opening the door for Sverigedemokraterna, a party she does not share values with and considers an ideological opponent.
Gunnarsson will continue to serve out her current term.
