The Swedish Security Service (Säkerhetspolisen) has identified the Imam Ali Islamic Center in Järfälla as a security threat with connections to the Iranian regime, according to reports from SVT. The security agency has warned that the war in Iran could have consequences on Swedish soil.
Municipal councilor Emma Feldman (M) has reported being subjected to harassment and threats following her criticism of the mosque and the municipality's decision to end its cooperation with the center in 2022. Feldman stated that extremist propaganda was coming from the mosque and that connections had been found within Järfälla municipality's operations.
It is a serious accusation to describe a religious community as a threat to Sweden's security. Such claims lack concrete evidence. There has never been any concrete information from concerned or responsible authorities showing that our organization constitutes a security threat.
In an unusual concrete statement in early 2025, Säpo indicated that leading persons in the Imam Ali Islamic Center have connections to the Iranian intelligence service. According to the security agency, the mosque serves as a platform for intelligence activities and also poses a security threat to individuals in the Iranian diaspora in Sweden.
The mosque has responded to the allegations via email, calling them "serious accusations" that "lack concrete evidence." The center's press unit stated: "It is a serious accusation to describe a religious community as a threat to Sweden's security. Such claims lack concrete evidence. There has never been any concrete information from concerned or responsible authorities showing that our organization constitutes a security threat."
