San Jose Sharks forward Igor Chernyshov was hospitalized after a hit during a game against the Montreal Canadiens in Montreal. The incident occurred 28 seconds into the first period when Canadiens defenseman Mike Matheson delivered a hit on Chernyshov. Chernyshov fell and hit his head on the ice, appearing groggy and bleeding from the face.
He was helped off the ice and taken to a hospital for evaluation. San Jose coach Ryan Warsofsky said Chernyshov is back with the team and doing well, and will fly with them to Ottawa. The Sharks won the game 4-2, with Macklin Celebrini scoring two goals and an assist.
