Newborns in Norrbotten have been offered antibody treatment against RS virus since September 15, 2025. At Sunderby Hospital, early results are already noticeable. Hilda Hassler, a pediatrician at Sunderby Hospital, says their gut feeling is that there is a considerable difference.
The treatment, which protects infants from becoming seriously ill for about six months, is given via an injection after birth. So far, no children who received the treatment have been hospitalized. The RS season started before Christmas but has not yet peaked, with an increase in cases since mid-January.

Hassler notes that this year, they have not seen very young children aged 0-3 months becoming seriously ill and needing respiratory assistance. A national evaluation of the number of hospitalized cases will be conducted in the spring when the RS season is over.
