The collapse occurred at around 1:40 PM local time at Boarding Lounge Gate 7 of Terminal 3, as confirmed by InJourney Airports Corporate Secretary Group Head Arie Ahsanurrohim. He attributed the incident to a large volume of rainwater that overwhelmed the drainage system, with Jakarta under a severe weather alert at the time. According to an airport spokesperson, the disturbance lasted for about five minutes, causing panic among passengers.

In response, airport staff worked swiftly to clear the debris, as stated by PT Angkasa Pura Indonesia assistant deputy for communication and legal affairs Mr Yudistiawan. The severe weather also led to 12 flights being diverted and 28 flights disrupted, officials said. Arie Ahsanurrohim apologized for the inconvenience, saying the airport regretted the disruption at Boarding Lounge Gate 7 of Terminal 3.

It remains unclear what specific structural issues or maintenance factors contributed to the roof's failure, how many passengers were directly affected or evacuated, and what the estimated cost of damages and repairs will be. Additionally, it is unknown if there were any long-term flight cancellations or significant delays beyond the initial disruptions, and what safety inspections or measures have been implemented following the incident.
