Jonas Klang from Ronneby, Sweden, has been ordered to repay 38,000 kronor to the Swedish Board of Student Finance (CSN) after working two days immediately following the completion of his studies. According to a report from SVT Blekingenytt, Klang received omställningsstudiestöd (transitional study support) on a full-time basis, which prohibited him from working and earning income during his study period. His course ended on a Friday, and he worked on Saturday and Sunday at a previous workplace, believing his study period had concluded.
Five months later, CSN informed him he had received unauthorized income and issued the repayment demand. The issue stems from CSN's policy of calculating support based on calendar weeks from Monday to Sunday, meaning that despite his studies ending on Friday, the rules applied for the entire week. Klang acknowledges his mistake but questions the proportionality of the penalty, stating that while he accepts responsibility, the 38,000 kronor amount feels excessive.
38,000 kronor feels excessive compared to what he considers more reasonable amounts of 10,000 or 20,000 kronor.
He now urges others undergoing retraining to carefully read CSN's regulations to avoid similar situations.
