According to court records, Matthew Brown, who owns and runs Carr Farm in Milnrow, Rochdale, was convicted by a jury and jailed by a judge on Thursday. A 17-year-old girl was attacked by a Tibetan Mastiff dog while walking past the farm on Tunshill Lane in April 2021. Police reported that the girl was left with a large and exposed V-shaped wound to her arm from the dog's bite.
According to court records, Matthew Brown pleaded not guilty to being in charge of a dog dangerously out of control that caused injury in the attack on the teenager. A trial began at Manchester Crown Court in February, and Matthew Brown was found guilty by the jury on February 5. He was sentenced by a judge on Thursday, March 5, and jailed for 15 months and disqualified from owning a dog for five years.
The dog involved in the attack on the teenager has been rehomed. The victim said she has been left permanently scarred by the attack. She stated, 'Before I was attacked by this dog, I used to enjoy going out and being active.
I would regularly go on walks on public footpaths and enjoy being out in the surrounding area. ' She added, 'However, since this incident, I do not like going out on my own. I also feel apprehensive about going out with friends and family.
When I do have to leave the house, I feel that I am anxious and concerned. ' The victim said she gave birth to a daughter in 2022, but felt the incident has had a negative impact on her being a parent and on her daughter's ability to enjoy the countryside. She explained, 'I should be able to enjoy the area in which I live and give my daughter the experiences I had as a child.
However, I feel like this incident has taken this away from me. ' The victim said the incident has had an impact on her family as well. In a separate incident at the same farm, court records indicate that Daniel Twigg, 3, was mauled to death in a later incident at the same farm in Rochdale.
Daniel Twigg died after being attacked by a Cane Corso dog at the farm in May 2022. The parents of Daniel Twigg, Joanne Bedford and Mark Twigg, were jailed in October last year in connection with his death. They were found guilty of being in charge of a dog dangerously out of control causing injury, as per court records.
The circumstances leading to the dog attacks, such as whether the dogs were properly secured or if there were prior warnings, have not been disclosed. Additionally, it is unclear what actions have been taken to prevent future incidents at Carr Farm or in the surrounding area. The current condition and whereabouts of the dogs involved in both attacks remain unknown.
