Swedish pop icon Robyn is releasing a new album titled 'Sexistential', her first in eight years. The album deals with themes like one-night stands, IVF, motherhood, and sensuality. Robyn's previous album 'Honey' was released eight years ago, and her debut album 'Robyn is here' came out 31 years ago, marking over three decades of activity for the artist.
The album title 'Sexistential' started as a joke in an SMS thread with Robyn's sister. Robyn describes the new album as her 'MILF' album, stating, 'It's something very liberating to be able to be super serious and super silly at the same time. Just sad or just happy becomes too simple.
It was a liberation to become friends with that fear.
' She added, 'The most superficial sexual encounter also contains big existential questions. Like do I want to have children with this person? Do I even want to become a parent?
' The album includes new material and old demos that have now found their place, with the first single 'Dopamine' being an old demo. There is also a new version of 'Blow my mind' from 2002 on the album. Robyn has collaborated with Max Martin and Klas Åhlund on the album, describing Åhlund as 'the other band member in the band Robyn'.
The most superficial sexual encounter also contains big existential questions. Like do I want to have children with this person? Do I even want to become a parent? And so on.
Robyn has had world hits and influenced next-generation artists like Charli XCX, Lorde, Carly Rae Jepsen, and Troye Sivan. She feels flattered when she is copied, as she believes copying is an inherent part of creating something. The specific release date for 'Sexistential' has not been announced, and it is unknown how many tracks are on the album.
