The board of Ringebu folk high school has decided to close the school at the end of the current school year. The closure is due to a persistent decline in the number of applicants, with the school having 37 students this year but needing a minimum of 50 for financial and pedagogical sustainability. Only ten students have accepted a place for the next school year.
Ringebu folk high school was founded in 1876 and is considered one of the country's oldest folk high schools. It is operated by the county municipality. In a separate development, Linghem School is closing after the spring term.
It is impossible to have school pavilions in place in Linghem by autumn, and no other premises are available.
