RFU Backs Borthwick Despite England's Historic Six Nations Struggles

SportsSports
Key Points
  • England lost to Scotland, Ireland, and Italy in the Six Nations, including a historic first-ever defeat to Italy.
  • The RFU has reaffirmed its commitment to head coach Steve Borthwick despite the disappointing results.
  • Speculation persists about Borthwick's future, with betting odds listing potential replacements like Ronan O'Gara.

England started the Six Nations with a comprehensive victory over Wales at Twickenham, extending their winning run to 12 matches. However, the campaign quickly deteriorated as England lost matches to Scotland, Ireland, and Italy. The loss to Italy in Rome marked the first time England had ever lost to Italy, having won the previous 32 meetings.

Since the tournament introduced Italy in 2000, England have never failed to record less than two victories in a single campaign. England is now battling to avoid their worst-ever Six Nations campaign. The Rugby Football Union says they are 'fully committed' to Steve Borthwick despite England's woeful Six Nations campaign.

After a 12 match winning run, these past three results have been hugely disappointing, and we feel that just as much as everyone else.

' The RFU has insisted that Borthwick is the right man to lead England into next year's World Cup in Australia. However, speculation about Borthwick's future persists. Former Ireland fly-half Ronan O'Gara is the 3/1 favourite with William Hill to replace Steve Borthwick as England head coach.

Ireland and Lions coach Andy Farrell is priced at 4/1 to replace Steve Borthwick as England head coach. Other names in the frame to replace Borthwick include ex-All Blacks coach Scott Robertson, Exeter Chiefs director of rugby Rob Baxter, and Northampton Saints director of rugby Phil Dowson, all at 8/1 odds.

Steve and his coaching team are working tirelessly to make improvements, and we remain fully committed to supporting them and the players as they face France this weekend and then look ahead to the Nations Championship.
