Key Points
  • Revet, a youth cultural hub, opened in Visby in October, offering mobile activities for ages 13-25.
  • It emphasizes youth influence through a reference group and provides access to creative spaces and resources.
  • The hub operates weekly and has launched a website to support cultural engagement on Gotland.

Revet has quickly established itself as a meeting place for young Gotlanders. The venue opened in October last year at Specksrum 6 in Visby innerstad, serving as a base for Region Gotland's newly started cultural activities for youth. Revet is a place where art and culture are in focus, targeting young Gotlanders aged 13 to 25 who want to create, experience, and arrange culture.

The name was chosen by youth in the target group, who thought it was both 'beautiful and cool'. Giving young people influence over the activity, and over the cultural offerings on Gotland in general, is an important principle for Revet. Annika Wassén, Revet's activity leader, stated, 'We want more young people on Gotland to encounter culture, but also to be involved in shaping it.

We want more young people on Gotland to encounter culture, but also to be involved in shaping it. We work with youth influence in various ways, including through a reference group that helps us develop the activity.

' The activity is mobile and will pop up around the island. Revet is open every Thursday from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM, and other days when there are workshops, concerts, etc. Youth can also get access to a dance studio, rehearsal room, stage, exhibition space, and various workshops.

One regular visitor, 17-year-old Silje Munkhammar from Klintehamn, describes Revet as a place where you can easily access culture and find others who like the same thing. She added, 'For me, Revet is incredibly important. It's a way to build contacts, make friends, and develop through workshops and different projects.

For me, Revet is incredibly important. It's a way to build contacts, make friends, and develop through workshops and different projects. And above all, a way to fill everyday life with things you think are fun!

' Revet's new website was recently launched, containing information about everything happening at Revet and other useful details for culture-interested youth on Gotland. The page is intended to function as a knowledge bank, with information on where you can borrow film equipment, apply for money for cultural events, and much more.
